Plate 14 starts with an image of the Sun in a chariot. The wheel of the chariot has the symbol of Leo.
The text describes the Plate:
Fourthly: The Heat cleanses that which is unclean.
This is the beginning of purification. The conflict of the previous Plate has transitioned from war to sports—still conflict, but friendly conflict. The three-headed Albedo bird has transitioned from internal conflict to internal harmony… all the heads (red rising above the white and black) are now facing the same way, and the body is now a golden dragon (with the hint of a peacock-feathered tail).
Psyche’s fourth task is to travel to the Underworld to obtain a dose of beauty from Persephone to give to Aphrodite. Again Psyche despaired. She climbed up a Tower with the intent of falling to her death. The Tower chided her… if you die, you are going to the Underworld anyway, so why not try to complete the task? The Tower tells her how to find the Underworld and how to get in and out without getting trapped. Psyche follows the Tower’s instructions (ie, listens to her intuition) and is able to retrieve a dose of beauty from Persephone.
